Why Niño Boards
The Niño Boards Story: Built for Small Feet, Big Dreams
Welcome to Niño Boards—where art meets the pavement.
For years, I've been a designer, illustrator, and parent to four niños. I've seen firsthand how skateboarding can build confidence, coordination, and a sense of independence in kids. But when I looked at buying a first board for my own children, I faced a common problem:
Everything on the market was either a cheap, low-quality toy, or it was covered in art that simply didn't fit a child.
Most pro-skate decks are designed with aggressive graphics—demons, dark imagery, and gritty aesthetics. While that works for the pros, I wanted something different for our kids. I wanted boards that felt fun, quirky, and inviting. I wanted the kids to be excited about their boards and even more excited to get out the door and start cruising.
The Niño Difference
I started Niño Boards to fill that gap. Every deck you see here is a 7.5" pro-quality Canadian maple deck, specifically sized for younger skaters. But the heart of Niño Boards is the art.
Instead of the usual skate shop tropes, my boards feature:
-
Original Art: Kid-friendly designs that celebrate fun, creativity, and joy.
-
Pro-Grade Performance: These aren't "toy store" boards. They are built to handle real skating, helping your child progress the correct and easier way from their first roll to their first trick.
-
Parent-Approved Imagery: Designed to be as fun to look at as they are to ride. These boards roll just as well mounted as unique art pieces on a bedroom or living room wall.
Designed in Austin
Niño Boards is a labor of love, designed right here in the Brushy Creek area of North Austin. As a local designer and children's book creator, I believe that the gear our kids use should inspire them.
My goal is to make skateboarding less intimidating and more inclusive. Whether your child is just finding their balance or already cruising the park, Niño Boards is here to give them a platform that feels like it was made just for them...because it was.
